The Dogs of Leighthouse

We are dedicated Siberian Husky enthusiasts!  In addition to being an obedience training facility, we are also a show kennel, and our dogs  have een or currently are active in other arenas including recreational sledding, 4-H, junior handling and camping/hiking. The dogs are part of our family and our life centers around activities and functions where we can include them.

We encourage finding a breeder that breeds for quality, sound Siberians with outstanding temperaments that conform to the breed standard that has all breeding stock

OFA hip tested and holds current clear eye certificates before breeding.

The Siberian is not the breed for everyone.  They absolutely require a fenced yard, at least five feet in height and cannot be off lead.

They are a high energy breed and can be  prone to digging and have a high predatory drive.

We are members of the Siberian Husky Club of America, the Seneca Siberian Husky Club, the Siberian Husky Club of the Niagara Frontier.

We follow the code of ethics for these clubs. We encourage all dog owners to get involved in a breed or dog club.

For more info about Siberians and why they are not the breed for everyone, and the many Siberian rescues in need of homes,

go to www.SenecaSiberianHuskyClub.org

PAST DOGS- GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN:

Nikita Rae of Leight , CGC, TDI, CD. 1991-2007. She attended many events over the course of her career. Nikita has been to hospitals, schools, libraries and nursing homes, was a demo dog at the Boy Scout Klondike days and the Ontario Beach Park Winterfests along with Flame and Albert, attended outdoor church services while camping in Algonquin, and competed in obedience at our National Specialty. Nikita accompanied Pat to work at the nursing home for several years.

Innisfree's Flaming Leight- 1993-2004. Flame. Our overstandard big guy who loved pulling our sled and going to schools, libraries and Winterfests to do demos.  He loved dog shows cause he had the 'tude! He was always great around kids. Flame won a Dog Fancy magazine "Dog and Owner Look Alike" contest!  He loved camping and traveled many places with us. He saw moose in Algonquin and climbed Blue Mountain with us in the Adirondacks. On his last camping trip 2 months before his death he hiked the Buttermilk Falls trail with us. He died of a hemangiosarcoma (cancer) on his liver. To find out more about Siberian canine cancer or to donate to canine cancer research go to: Grizz's Story A Greater Courage

Krystalairs Fire and Ice, CGC, TDI- 1992-2002. Albert. CERF and OFA'd. Our little male with a big heart! He came into our home as a older sled dog and enjoyed a small show career, accruing championship points, before we retired him and temporarily took a leave of absence from the show ring to raise our daughter. Also our co-sled dog and demo dog! He and Nikita were awarded a  volunteer certificate in 2002 for their hours of Therapy Dog service at Wesley Community nursing home. This certificate included a star pin, with the coordinates to a real star that had been purchased in recognition of all the volunteers that year! He passed away after being diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and a brain tumor and we think of him when we look up at that star . Albert's Pedigree & Career
